We seek to create an expansive archive of genealogical records for Jamaica that identify the First Nation Peoples of the Caribbean in official documents.

Did you know?

The words we use today originated from the Taino language. Here's a few to ponder:

iwana became iguana
maize/maiz - used to describe corn, the word maize comes from the Taíno words mahisi or mahis, which come from the Proto-Arawak term mariki
papaya - the fruit was brought to the area by Taino ancestors
tuna - we use the word tuna to describe a type of fish but it is also a Spanish word to describe prickly pear and its fruit, which comes from the same word in Taino
