The GEDmatch Ancestor Project is a project undertaken by Taino DNA and Genealogy and the Council of Native Caribbean Heritage which works towards bringing awareness to the existence, cultures, and languages of the indigenous Caribbean communities. We seek to assist others in connecting with their ancestral roots through the use of powerful software applications that allow the individual to compare their DNA to samples obtained from ancient remnants.

GEDmatch Ancestor Project involves a group of individuals with a common research goal. The focus is on shared DNA, common ancestral locations, surnames, or admixture. GEDmatch provides a DNA analysis page for group members of such projects to compare their DNA to one another. Currently, we have over 600 members from the Gedmatch community who have volunteered and uploaded their DNA data into our GEDmatch Ancestor project for use in research.
As a premier informational online resource, GEDmatch serves as a comprehensive educational tool to be used and shared by everyone. Through traditional genealogy and modern genetic testing, we seek to raise awareness within our people while fostering a sense of community throughout the various tribal groups in the Caribbean region.
In the spirit of authenticating and fortifying the existence of our native tribes, we had the privilege of hearing the findings of a research team from Harvard Medical School under Dr. Reich, in sequencing the DNA of ancient remains that pertained to the Taino community and received an honorable acknowledgment within their research article. With the data from our Gedmatch research, we will compare this genetic data to the Ancient Taino genetic data from Dr. Schroeder’s and Dr. Reich’s studies. All the data we will uncover in this research will be published in an academic research journal.
Join the GEDmatch Ancestor Project today, which may help you trace your ancestral ties.
Please visit often as the GEDmatch database is currently in its infancy. In time, it will grow and it will take the participation from the public to help us increase the number of documents in the GEDmatch Ancestor Project.
As of Fall 2020, there are more than 1.45 million DNA profiles on GEDmatch; GED stands for GEnealogical Data. GEDmatch allows you to compare your DNA raw data using a variety of easy-to-use applications, most of which are free. The services include 45+ genetic tools which help understand and explore your DNA and ancestry.
